Scots lottery winner splashes out on new car
SCOTLAND’S 148million lotto mum popped out to the shops yesterday and bought herself a 50,000 dream car.
And after taking a shiny new Audi Q7 for a test drive, thrilled Gillian Bayford exclusively told the Daily Record: “I’m delighted. It’s what I’ve always wanted.”
Gillian and her husband Adrian are having a break in nike air her home town of Carnoustie with kids Aimee, six, and Cameron, four, as they try to recover from the shock of their colossal EuroMillions jackpot.
They’re staying in the posh Carnoustie Golf Hotel, close to the static caravan park where Gillian’s parents live.
But yesterday, Gillian headed into Dundee to do some shopping. And one of her first stops was the Dundee Audi showroom, to check out the plush 4×4 she’s been dreaming of for years.
The health care assistant said after her win: “I always knew a Q7 was something out of my price range but now it’s not.”
Gillian, 40, pulled up at the showroom in a humble, dented VW Sharan, but she won’t be driving it much longer.
She took a brand new Q7 for a 10 minute test drive along Dundee’s Kingsway, then wasted no time ordering one of her own.
It will come complete with a top of the range Bang Olufsen sound system, and a host of other luxuries.
Gillian left the showroom clutching an Audi brochure, and told the Record: “The staff were brilliant with me.
“They couldn’t do enough and I’m really pleased.”
She admitted at the press conference after the win that a Q7 was one of the first things she thought of when she and Adrian realised they were multi millionaires.
She said: “I got the children settled, and out came the laptop because I was thinking, ‘I’ve got some money!’
“ nike air I thought to myself, ‘I’ve always wanted a Q7′, typed that in and thought, ‘Oh, I can design my own.’
“Silly little things like that, things I never ever thought of, things I always would have liked but never researched.
“I’m used to going to the bank, taking out some money and seeing the balance go down and thinking I only have so many days until pay day.
“Now, with this amount, if we go and buy something it wo nike air n’t make a dent in it. It’s slightly frightening and exciting.”
Adrian, 41, was also seen out shopping yesterday, buying presents for the kids at the Disney Store in Dundee’s Murraygate.
Gillian and Adrian scooped a huge 148.6m
A bystander said: “He was laden with bags and looking very pleased.”
The Bayfords are doing their best to keep life as normal as possible despite their new nine figure fortune.
They booked 130 seats on easyJet to fly to Scotland from their Suffolk home, and have no plans for any lavish celebrations while they are here.
“There’s no parties arranged,” Gillian told us. “We’re just trying to get a bit of peace.
“I just want to be left to try and lead a normal life.”
A fellow guest at the Golf Hotel said: “Gillian and Adrian are nike air just going about their business like any other family.
“I’ve seen Gillian having coffee and a chat with her friends.
“Good luck to them. They deserve it. Who can blame her for wanting a posh car?”
Audi refused to comment officially on Gillian’s new car. But a staff member said: “It’s pretty exciting. There was a buzz in the showroom you don’t get a lottery winner coming in every day.
